Oral cancer often begins as something small and painless — a patch of discoloured tissue, a sore that doesn’t heal, a lump you would never think to mention. That is exactly why screening belongs in a routine check-up rather than a special appointment.
Dr. Le performs an oral cancer screening at every routine visit. It takes a couple of minutes, it doesn’t hurt, and it is included as part of your examination.
Alongside a careful visual and physical examination, we use VELscope® adjunctive screening technology. It uses a safe blue light to make certain tissue changes visible that can be difficult to spot under ordinary light.
A screening is not a diagnosis. If anything looks unusual we will explain exactly what we have seen, document it, and arrange the appropriate follow-up or referral straight away. Most findings turn out to be harmless — but checking is the entire point.
No. Dr. Le performs the screening as part of every routine examination and cleaning visit, so it happens automatically.
Not at all. It involves a visual and physical examination of the soft tissues, plus a light-based check. There is nothing invasive about it.
We will show and explain what we have seen, record it, and arrange prompt follow-up or a referral for definitive diagnosis. We will not leave you wondering.
