When a filling is no longer enough, a crown rebuilds the whole tooth — restoring strength first, and looking entirely natural doing it.
Dental crowns and caps are the same thing. When decay, a cracked filling, a root canal or years of clenching and grinding have caused significant damage, a simple filling no longer has enough sound tooth to hold on to.
A crown covers the entire visible tooth, holding the remaining structure together and taking the full force of your bite. Thanks to modern ceramics it is possible to do that and still end up with a tooth nobody can pick out.
We examine the tooth, take images and confirm a crown is the right answer — and that the tooth underneath is worth crowning.
The tooth is shaped to receive the crown and detailed impressions are taken. A temporary crown protects the tooth in the meantime.
The permanent crown is checked for fit, contact and colour, the bite is adjusted, and it is cemented permanently in place.
Advances in dental materials mean a well-made crown reflects light much like natural enamel rather than looking flat or opaque. We match the shade to the teeth around it, not to a generic white.
